Winter X Games 2012: Justin Dorey Crash - Superpipe Skiing

I was chilling at home on Saturday night watching the Winter X games live from Aspen when this guy just PROPERLY slams the lip of the Superpipe wall.

He totally ATE it, but it looks pretty rad in slow-mo...

Yeah, OUCH!!!!

Then there was this other guy Colten Moore, who slams the floor pretty hard in the Snowmobile Freestyle Finals, I won't tell you anymore, just have a look...  But he still went on to win the X Games Gold Medal... Big Up!!!

The Lonely Island

If you've never heard of these guys in some form or another, then you most probably haven't really lived yet, just kidding!!! :-)

The Lonely Island is an American comedy troupe, best known for their comedic music. The group broke out due to their collective work from 2005–2011 on Saturday Night Live.

They feature guys such as:  Justin Timberlake, T-Pain, Seth Rogan, Michael Bolton, Akon & Nicky Minaj.

Very cool & different style of music & especially the lyrics they use, which are pretty hilarious...

Here are some of their funniest videos, ENJOY -

Tokoloshe Was A Thug

Ok, this is pretty random, yet FUNNY as hell.  I saw it on the front page of The Daily Sun yesterday.

Bonsai Repot

I decided to repot one of babies, it took a lot longer than expected...
But here is the outcome -

Eventually out of the pot, amazing how much soil fits in
that little space! Roots trimmed, ready to go back into a new pot.

And there we have it.  Done & dusted.

Fiji Vignettes

Shoooooo!!!  After a long Monday at the office, this is the place I wanna be right now.

Riley Blakeway takes us above the waves with a bit of RC Helicopter camera footage of Taj Burrow taking full advantage at an exclusive resort in Fiji, and I am not talking about raiding the mini bar or trashing a hotel room!!!

My First Hardcore Song

An 8 year old Brisbane schoolgirl's innocent world of backyard bliss has been turned upside down after her heavy metal song about loving her 2 pets went viral on Youtube & sold up a storm on iTunes.

This video had 12 million hits in just 4 days -
It's pretty funny, have a look at the video below...

ZEF!!!

You either love them, or you hate them.  Either way, Die Antwoord's new album, TEN$ION will be out 7 February via ZEF Records, in partnership with Good Smile, Downtown Records, and CO-OP Music.  (Not Interscope)

After their first video, here is another taste from what's sure to be a bizarre affair:  The Yo-Landi-lead track "I Fink U Freeky"

Base jumper crashes into Table Mountain

A top international base jumper has badly injured his leg in a crash-landing after jumping off Table Mountain on Monday.
Jeb Corliss is revered by many as one of the world’s foremost base jumpers and wingsuit pilots, and successfully “flew” off Table Mountain last week.  Base jumping involves using a parachute to jump from fixed objects such as bridges, antennas, and cliffs.
Corliss, 35, was airlifted from the mountain by an Air Mercy Services helicopter and taken by ambulance to Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital.  The Californian’s friend, Joby Ogwyn, had already jumped when Corliss made his attempt.
A shaken Ogwyn said he could not explain what had caused the accident.  “It could have been a strange gust of wind; it could be that he got too close to the mountain,” Ogwyn said.  “I’m not sure what happened. I heard a sound – it sounded like Jeb hit a ledge, it sounded like he hit it twice, pretty hard.  “Apparently he’s speaking,” he said.  Metro EMS said Corliss had jumped from the Africa Face ledge and crashed at India Venster.
Check out the video, pretty damn INSANE!!!

Hudson's Claremont

Being a HUGE fan of the super popular Hudson's Burger Joint which started in Kloof Street, I heard that they were planning on opening a branch in Claremont (after the opening of Somerset Rd of course).  Awesome, coz it's right around the corner from our house.

Janine & I decided to visit there last week Wednesday & were blown away by the quality of the food.  We started off with the 3 cheese Jelapeno poppers - AMAZING!!! Yes, it's a burger restaurant, but their pizza's are just as delicious.  Their pizza's are served Bravado style, just like the old times.

Visit either one of their 3 branches, and see just how amazing the food really is...

Biggest Teahupoo Ever!!!

This day @ Teahupoo - 27 August 2011 during the Billabong Pro waiting period is what many are calling the biggest & gnarliest Teahupoo ever ridden.  Chris Bryan was fortunate enough to be there working for Billabong on a day that will go down in history of big wave surfing.  The French Navy labeled this day a double code red, prohibiting & threatening to arrest anyone that entered the water.

Kelly Slater described the day by saying "witnessing this was a draining feeling, being terrified for other people's lives all day long, it's life or death.  Letting go of that rope one time can change your life & not many people will ever experience that in their life."

All images were shot by Chris Bryan using the Phantom HD Gold camera.  To see more of Chris' work, check out his website.

Tunebug Vibe

Probably one of the coolest gadgets that I've seen for a while now.

The Tunebug's patented SurfaceSound Technology lets sound waves pass through the surface it rests on, turning many surfaces into a flat panel speaker.

The Tunebug Vibe can be connected to MP3 players, mobile devices, laptops or any other device with a 3.5mm audio jack.

It just looks slick, I want one...

Check out the video below -

You see, it does look slick!!!

Pablo The Puss

Ok, let me introduce you to our little guy.

Say hi to Pablo -

Not too many people are fond of cats, me neither really.  BUT, this guy is more like a dog than a cat.  He really is cool & has such a personality.

As you can see, he loves to pose for photos.  He also has a habit of trying to crawl into weird & really small places, like boxes or shopping bags.  He has been doing it since he was a kitten & it's just sort of "stuck" I suppose.

Honest Logo's...

I dig designers with a bit of humour.
This guy, Viktor Hertz definitely has some humour.

Very cool knock-offs!!!
Yes, it has been done before, but these are just a little more original than the ones we've previously seen...

Jack Parow - Eksie Ou 2012

After his HUGE success locally & internationally with his Debut album, Jack Parow has come out with his second album "Eksie Ou"...

I knew it would be good, but had no idea it would be as good as it is.  It was one of my "wishes" on my xmas wish list.  Too stoked it worked out!!!

Jack collaborates with a wide spectrum of artists on this album, including: Gazelle, Francois van Coke, P.H. Fat, Sibot & oh (wait for it) David Kramer.

This album is a MUST HAVE for any South African who supports local music...

New Years @ Kwaggas!!!

Well, we made it to yet another year end.

I think we will all agree that 2011 was pretty tough, in all aspects.
2012 promises to be MUCH better, and I'm loving everybody's positive spirit.

A few of us decided to go camping to Kwaggaskloof Dam over New Years.  What an amazing place to spend time with friends.  Kwaggas is a little different to the rest of the dams in Cape Town, which have that dark and scary colour to them.  Kwaggas consists of almost pure white beach sand, which makes the water really blue.  It's absolutely incredible...

Besides getting sunburnt like a toasted almond, it was great to get away from the city for a couple days with good mates.  Fishing, drinking and just having a good time...

Cheers to 2012!!!

Yes, it's a dam.  Not the sea!!!

Starting to set up the campsite

We always knew there was
something magical about Heineken

L'Ormarins Queen's Plate

On Saturday 7 January 2012, the 151st running of the Queen's Plate was hosted @ Kenilworth Race Course, Cape Town.  They hosted the gathering of South Africa's most respected thoroughbreds in the country's oldest horse race.

The Queen's Plate first thundered onto African soil in 1861, it signaled a meeting of racing excellence, style & grace that has continued unsurpassed in he history of South African horse racing.

A race that began with a silver plate & 500 sovereigns donated to the winner by Queen Victoria.

It's all about the right people - 8000 of the right people.
Dress code is strictly Blue & White.
It's about elegance, sophistication & like-minded people.

I was lucky enough to be given a VIP ticket by Elizabeth Arden for the "Stud Club" hospitality tent.  It was VERY hot, so I am truly grateful for being under the shade of the tent the entire day!!!

My sexy lady

BIG congrats to Ryan & Heather on their
engagement on 6 January 2012

A South African Favourite...

Let's be honest, there aren't too many South Africans who don't enjoy biltong.

What's better than buying expensive biltong from shops nowadays, is making you own...  It somehow has a better taste when you make it yourself & it comes out right!!!

My babies... (no, not kids... Yet)

So, seeing that this is my first post, I thought I would start of with something that takes up most of my time other than work.  You guessed it, my hobby of Bonsai...  It is an extremely exciting fascination, and a lot of people can't seem to get to grips with why I would dedicate so much time to a few trees (well, 28 to be exact)...

You get this weirdest feeling when training a tree, and every tree is completely different to the others.  I have been doing Bonsai for about 7 years now and have definitely learnt loads along the way, being patient is definitely one of the key elements.  You can't just get a new tree, work on it and expect it to automatically look like you want it to.  It takes time, and a lot of it...  But when things start coming together, it really does give you this sense of achievement. Trimming, wiring, root pruning, feeding and watering are only a few of the tasks involved with Bonsai.

Anyway, i could go on and on about what Bonsai is and how it started etc etc, but i will leave it up to you to do a bit of research on your own! :-)  It truly is an amazing hobby and I encourage every person to try their hand at it. It really isn't for everybody, but at least try and you will know.

Below are a few pics of one of my sections of trees...
